A Community in Healing: Rolling Out Trauma Informed Practices

On Febuary 27th, Healing10 and The Center for Urban Research and Education held a summit titled “A Community in Healing: Rolling Out Trauma Informed Practices”. Healing10 is a cross-sector coalition, sponsored by Hopeworks ‘N Camden. The collaboration of Camden organizations share a transformative vision for the City: infuse a trauma-informed approach to services and care across all organizations that interact with Camden residents in order to help improve the wellbeing and life prospects of individuals and communities.

The summit raised awareness of how adversity, trauma and toxic stress impacts the Camden communities, individuals, and organizations.  The half day event focused on the implementation of trauma informed practices in Camden and the surrounding area and included an introduction to Trauma and trauma informed practices, a presentation of the research on “Efficacy of a Trauma Informed Methodology for Hopeworks ‘N Camden” by Dr. Natasha Fletcher, and a panel discussion. An introduction to trauma and trauma informed practices was presented by the Hopeworks Youth Healing Team.  The event was a  huge success with over 100 in attendance, including 35 Camden young people.

You can check the live stream of the event on Facebook. We also have some great photos of the event that can be viewed here.

We will also be holding a follow-up event entitled “Collaborating in Camden: A Community in Healing” follow-up BBQ. The BBQ will be hosted by Rutgers TEEM Gateway at the Isabel Miller Community Center. We have invited all the participants from Monday’s event. The BBQ will be 11 am- 2 pm on April 27th, 2017.
