Hopeworks Alumni Network, a new and growing initiative, is off to a great start this summer! After an initial pilot in the spring of 2017, the benefits and value of regularly scheduled Alumni events, coordinated by an internal part time Hopeworks staff member and a Board of Beacon Alumni, has become very clear. After the initial successful meeting in Princeton, NJ, Hopeworks alumni and soon to be alumni shared that the event was very valuable for networking, professional development, and advancing their careers to the next level. In addition, it was also a very effective way for Hopeworks to reconnect with key parts of our history and story as we grow.
Now the movement continues to grow. Multiple events are planned for this year to not only help alumni build their network, but also to help them grow their businesses! Events include:

How to run/start your own business: After feedback from the kick off alumni event, it was clear that a lot of our young people were ambitious and set on learning how to start and develop their own business from beginning to end. This meeting will include entrepreneurs sharing their experiences, as well as a break out session with the Hopeworks alumni who have experience building a business.

Resume building and marketing yourself : Coming out of school and transitioning between jobs can be very difficult to do especially if you are not sure what potential employers are looking for. This event will include HR representatives who will share what employers are looking for and how to sell your skills on a resume.

Budgeting: With the anticipation that our youth and alumni will be successful in everything they do, they will need to learn how to budget. Hopeworks has relationships with financial advisors who will come and share their tips and tricks for building and managing successful personal and business budgets.
