Hopeworks ‘N Camden Summer Job Program is back in full swing. Each job is comprised of a project that promotes social or environmental awareness, while building responsibility, teamwork, and professionalism in our youth. Our four ongoing projects are:
Youth Healing Team
The Youth Healing Team Summer Project provides an opportunity for a team of Hopeworks youth to strengthen and master the Level 1 and Level 2 award winning trauma trainings.
Scratch Coding Camp with the Camden Academy Charter School Network
A team of Hopeworks youth learned Scratch (programming language) from trainers at EPAM, a software development company. Using the program, they are working with students at Camden Academy Charter H.S. to develop collaborative projects addressing social challenges.
Health Advocacy Camp with the Boys and Girls Club
This team is working in partnership with the Food Trust and the Boys and Girls Club’s Fit and Swim summer program. Using curriculum from the Coordinated Approach to Childhood Health (CATCH) program the team works with kids grades 3 through 6.
Social Media Team
This team is creating a campaign using digital technology to spotlight the Camden County greenways. The goal of the team is to create videos featuring the walkways and encourage local residents to take advantage of these outdoor spaces.
Esperanza Garden Project
Camden is a well known food desert, and healthy food options at affordable prices are scarce within the city. For this reason, community gardens, such as the Esperanza Garden, were created in efforts to provide produce to the local community. In addition, we hope to educate the community on cost effective and space conscious ways of growing their own produce, as well as other varying environmental issues.
