City Wide Street Light Survey Completed
Hopeworks just completed a six month survey of the street lights in Camden. McGruff the Crime DogThis survey was made possible by a grant from the Crime Prevention Program of the Police Department of Camden. Hopeworks presented its results to CPP including a listing of all lights that were broken. Maps of this survey can be found by clicking here.


GIS Certification
Ed Figueroa
Ed Figueroa recently received his GIS certification through the University of Montana. Along with this certification, Ed received 15 college credits. Congratulations Ed on such a great accomplishment!


Camden Resource Data Available
CamdenResources.org is a website that has been created to make available pertinent data about the City of Camden. All the data that is located on this site has been mapped and produced by the youth of Camden. New resource data that is now available includes:
Ethnography Conference
Ed Figueroa had the opportunity to give a presentation at the University of Penn's Ethnography Conference on February 28th. Ed presented GIS and his experience of learning. Ed was well received by attendees. A similar presentation will be made at the Digital generations: Children, young people, and new media Centre for the study of Children, Youth and Media Inst. of Education to be held at the University of London in London, England in late July. Congratulations Ed!


Hopeworks Welcomes New Staff Members
This February Hopeworks has hired two new staff members. Kathleen Deitch is Hopeworks new Formation Director joined the team on February 16th. Eileen Cornwall is our new Web Program Director. Eileen came aboard on February 23rd. Both Eileen and Kathleen are new to the Camden area and look forward to being a part of Hopeworks.


Hopeworks Holds Socials
Hopeworks is having a series of get aquatinted social for those interested in knowing more about Hopeworks. Our first social was hosted by Tish & Gene Principato hosted on Sunday, March 7th. SocialThe social was attended by over thirty interested supporters and friends of Hopeworks. Also in attendance were Hopeworks youth, Ed Figueroa and Juan Ayala, who shared their experience of training at Hopeworks. Many thanks to all who attended and to the Principato's for hosting. Blessings to all those who care for the welfare of the youth of Camden.


Hopeworks to Offer SAFE Environment Training to Staff
Safe EnvironmentHopeworks will be offering training to all staff members in regards to preventing the sexual abuse of children on Monday, March 29th. The program being used was developed by Virtus and is called Protecting God's Children. The program will be facilitated by Kathleen Deitch, Hopeworks Formation Director.


Alumni NewsPresident's List Certificate

Rolando Polmales, an alumni of Hopeworks, has made the presidents list at Camden County Community College for the Fall 2003 Semester. Our congratulations and wishes for continued success go out to Rolando!


Hopeworks Fix Up Help
Volunteer PaintingThanks to the folks at Urban Promise for the great crew of volunteers who have been helping to fix up Hopeworks. We are hoping to get some fresh paint up on the walls, fix some lights and do some other odds and ends. Especially thanks to Virginia Commonwealth University for your help!

Awesome News!
Yesenia Nieves Yesenia Nieveshas achieved a 4.0 GPA on her semester report card. Yesenia has also participated in painting a mural at her High School. What an awesome way to use your talents Yesenia. Good going!

Hopeworks Scholars
Avielle Watkins
Avielle Watkins has earned a $2,500 academic scholarship from Hampton University Congratulations and continued success to Avielle!

Hopeworks Staff Trained
United WayThe Hopeworks Staff attended BEST Training held on Feb. 25-27 at the United Way in Philadelphia. The training was presented by Greater Philadelphia Federation of Settlements.

College Preparations
Endrix Afanador and Mario Arriola are scheduled for their SATs at the end of this month.

College Visits
Hopeworks will be doing college visitations at St. Joseph University and Temple University in April.

Former Trainee Visit
Josh Gilchrist, a summer GIS trainee stopped by Hopeworks recently to say hello. Josh is finishing up his sophomore year at Penn Tech where he made the Principal's list. He is also working at Foot Locker. Nice job Josh!
