Hopeworks was invited to Baltimore by Father Jim Cashiati, SJ, Pastor of St. Ignatius,  to present the Hopeworks program to Bishop Manning and a group of urban pastors.  This group is exploring ways to work with youth in Baltimore.  Our presentation was an hour long and was presented by Father Jeff, Melinda Rios, Sedale Brown and Angel Santana.  Below you will find an article written by Sedale Brown about his experience.

On Tuesday, April 15, 2008 I had the opportunity to visit Baltimore, Maryland to attend a meeting scheduled with Father Jeff.  This was the first business trip I have had the opportunity to attend. 

Father Jeff was asked to attend the meeting to discuss Hopeworks N’ Camden.  The audience included priests and other people who are involved in working for non-profit organizations in the Baltimore area.  Father Jeff thought it would be a good idea to bring some of the youth from Hopeworks to give real live examples of what Hopeworks really does.  It turned out to be a great idea!

Three day trainees were selected to attend this meeting.  Along with me, Melinda Rios and Angel Santana came along for the trip.  We all answered questions that anyone had in reference to Hopeworks.    Everyone wanted to know what our daily experience at Hopeworks was like.  The spotlight was truly on us.  We were able to give them information based off our first hand experience. 

I especially enjoyed this event because I have never had the experience of talking in front of such a large audience of unfamiliar people. Although we were nervous, we were able to represent Hopeworks in a great way.  

Before long, it was time to board the train to return to New Jersey.  As we traveled back we continued to enjoy great conversation and new scenery.   I hope Father Jeff needs me again so we can do some more traveling soon.
