Jamaal Johnson has been at Hopeworks for three years and recently completed his second semester at Camden County College.  Because Jamaal has demonstrated responsibility and a strong willingness to work, we chose him to be the first intern from Hopeworks at the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA).  This position was made possible by their willingness to engage our youth and through the support and direction of Mr. Andrew Kricun, their chief engineer and deputy executive director.  We sat down with Jamaal and asked him several questions about this exciting opportunity:

What do you plan to do at CCMUA?

I will be with Mr. Kricun and his staff most days.  I might be able to work with some of their attorneys or in some of their other departments.  Since Mr. Kricun oversees all their operations, I might be at the plant behind their offices seeing what goes on out there and how they process stuff.  Mainly though, I’ll be in the office, answering calls, writing letters, filing, copying and attending meetings.

What goals do you have there?

At my internship at the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority, I plan to be a hard worker and to learn more about their operations.   I will do the best job there, be there on time, and be helpful.  It is my first job and I don’t want to let anyone, including myself down.

How did you get the internship?

To get this internship, I had to practice interviewing with Patrick Keenan three times, and I did very well.  I also had to edit my resume.  Lastly, I practiced with Sean Dougherty not once, not twice, not three times, but four times prior to the interview.

Any closing thoughts?

I would like to thank Father Jeff for setting up the internship, and Patrick and Sean for helping me practice.  I’d also like to thank Mr. Kricun for giving me this opportunity.
