Ways to help

Hopeworks ‘N Camden uses education, technology and entrepreneurship to partner  with young men and women as they identify and earn a sustainable future. Together we seize the opportunity to heal and thrive in the midst of violence and poverty.

You can help us achieve our mission and change the lives of young people in Camden, changes that can ultimately help transform the city!  Hopeworks needs individuals and businesses to provide resources and expand our reach.

Read more below about all the different ways you can support our work.

Join the Fund Development Committee:
Meet (via conference call) bi-monthly to help Hopeworks grow our resources.  This committee helps to plan and execute two annual events (Dinner and Golf Outing), secure sponsorships, and introduce new prospective donors and corporate funders to the organization.

Become a Literacy Volunteer:
Provide individualized tutoring to young adults who are preparing to earn their GED and enter college, or provide homework assistance for youth currently enrolled in college classes.  The recommended time commitment is  2-4 hours weekly.  We have a need for Math and Writing tutors.  In addition, we are looking for individuals who would be willing to present creative, project-based workshops that would allow for exploration and skill development in various areas such as science labs, creative writing and fine arts, engineering, and technology.  The scheduling of workshops can be flexible according to an individual’s availability.

Become a Mock Interviewer:
The purpose of the mock interview is to further prepare youth with “real world interview experience.” Volunteers conduct a mock interview either virtually or in person at your convenience and provide feedback directly to the Formation Director after completing the mock interview.

Work in our Gardens:
Volunteer support is always welcome in the Esperanza Garden.  We are consistently looking to provide opportunities for service teams or individuals to help with the ongoing maintenance and treatment of our community garden.  Volunteers primarily help with watering, weeding and general cleaning, but can also support and facilitate community events.

Throughout the year, Hopeworks hosts a variety of events that connect our youth, supporters, and the community. Check out upcoming events!

Hope Works Here Screening

Please join us for the screening of ``Hope Works Here`` - a short documentary created by a team of 13 students at Villanova University. ``Hope Works Here`` looks at the hope and potential for students in Camden, specifically by focusing their lenses on Hopeworks.

At Holman we want to support local organizations that equip low-income people with the skills — and new dreams of what’s possible — that can lead to a life of accomplishment. In Camden, a city so long synonymous with despair, no organization provides these more effectively than Hopeworks. We are proud to help them with that mission.
