CAMDEN, NJ – A project that examined about 250 streetlights and replaced about 100 of them in the Whitman Park neighborhood will be implemented citywide.
"Streets and neighborhoods that are dimly lit become a haven for crime and are often perceived as unsafe," Mayor Victor Carstarphen said at a Thursday press conference. "I feel like Camden residents deserve better. And therefore, this [streetlight project] is and will remain a top priority."
The streetlight project will have multiple benefits, according to Camden County Police Department Deputy Chief Janell Simpson, a city native.
